Our projects
EAQUALS is involved in a wide range of projects. These fall into three main categories:
A. PROJECTS WITH KEY PARTNERS
B. PROJECTS ON TOPICS OF SPECIAL INTEREST AND RELEVANCE TO MEMBERS
C. POSTERS OF THE SPECIAL INTEREST PROJECTS
D. EUROPEAN PROJECTS
A. PROJECTS WITH KEY PARTNERS
Examples have included:
- The development of a Core Inventory for English with the British Council in 2010
- Assisting the Council of Europe in the organization of two conferences on the Linguistic Integration of Adult Migrants in 2008 and 2010
- Working under Council of Europe auspices on the preparation of user guides related to the CEFR, for example the manual for relating exams to the CEFR
- The development of the EAQUAL-ALTE European Language Portfolio and electronic portfolio, the Association of Language Testers in Europe (2000-2004)
- EAQUALS has liaison status with two ISO technical committees, ISO/TC 176, which is responsible for ISO 9001 and related management system standards, and ISO/TC 232, which is developing standards for 'non-formal' education and training, including ISO 29990 'Learning services for non-formal education and training -- Basic requirements for service providers', published in 2010. Richard Rossner represents the UK as well as EAQUALS on ISO/TC 232, which is now developing a specific standard for providers of language learning services. This is expected to be published in 2013. The current committee draft of this standard is available here.
B. PROJECTS ON TOPICS OF SPECIAL INTEREST AND RELEVANCE TO MEMBERS
In November each year EAQUALS members gather at a ‘workshop meeting' to work on projects identified as important to the development of quality in their institutions and in EAQUALS as a whole. The projects divide into three main areas:
- Curriculum and assessment: projects in this area have led to important revisions in the CEFR level descriptors for self-assessment, to the preparation and dissemination of case studies on curriculum development, and most importantly to the EAQUALS Certificate of Achievement scheme
- Language teacher training and development: work in this area has included the preparation of ‘teacher training sessions', and the development of the EAQUALS Profiling Grid.
Current work is focused on the development of a new tool for supporting teachers in the development of their ability to use ‘new technology' in their teaching, and a comprehensive framework for language teacher training and development.
- Quality and general management: projects in this area have included the writing of a three language glossary of terms relating to the EAQUALS accreditation scheme, the preparation of management training checklists and self-help guides, and the preparation of a guide for EAQUALS accredited members who wish to seek ISO 9001 certification

In addition EAQUALS was a partner in a 2007-2009 Leonardo da Vinci Project on the development of on-line training materials in new technology for language teachers.
EAQUALS is a partner in three new EU-funded projects in the period 2011-2015:
