CIEP is a public sector body founded in 1945 under the French Ministry of Education, which draws on a broad network of national and international partners. It provides training courses, performs assessment, awards language certifications and is involved in international project management on a national, European and international level.

As a key public service operator for the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Higher Education and Research, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ main operating partner for the French language, it contributes to reflection on international cooperation in education. In carrying out its activities, it calls upon a network of national and international experts and partners, and on the know-how of its 250-strong team.

CIEP’s two main areas of activity are education (general, higher and vocational; recognition of qualifications) and languages (French as a foreign language, assessment and certification in French, languages and mobility). In its role as a place for discussion and debate, CIEP also hosts seminars and international conferences.

CIEP is based in Sèvres (near Paris); it also has a branch in La Réunion (Indian Ocean).
