It is hard to make students read. Some teachers are frightened into paralysis from reading, especially if it is a literary text. They end up reading the text to the students in class. This is one of the reasons teachers find using literary texts in class challenging. All over the world there are many students who find reading classes boring. Teachers think that the students are unmotivated to read because they are “lazy”, “not interested in the topic”, or that they “don’t like reading”. However, the golden key for solving this problem is simply the “pre-reading” stage. This session will highlight some ideas to prepare students for reading.
