Plenary - Supporting our students’ wellbeing
Pastoral Care Online

Plenary - Supporting our students’ wellbeing

Time:

Living through a time of uncertainty and restrictions, students might be feeling frustrated, lonely and lost, and the obstacles of online learning can make it difficult for teachers to notice those issues and provide the needed support. Sometimes, this means giving students the avenue to share, and sometimes, this means offering useful suggestions or taking a moment to be mindful. This session looks at some ways we can support our students’ wellbeing as we navigate through these difficult times together.

Managing the evolution of CPDs into PCDs: far beyond the plans

Managing the evolution of CPDs into PCDs: far beyond the plans

Time:

To date professional growth has been based on identified needs and clear plans to reach set objectives until we were faced with the unique challenges that the pandemic brought into our lives and which impacted all levels of teaching and learning. Given these new demands, but with teachers still remaining central to successful learning, education leaders need to respond to the essentials of teaching, learning and teacher education. This means they need to ensure that teachers as supported during this transition phase and into the post-Covid world.

The climate emergency and international language education. Reviewing our institutional cultures.
Adapting Management for 2021 Needs

The climate emergency and international language education. Reviewing our institutional cultures.

Time:

We all have roles to play in the climate emergency. In the case of educational establishments, this is usually examined in terms of operations – how we run our schools, and content – how and what we teach. Perhaps these two categories are better seen as being at opposite ends of a continuum. This discussion will include a review of some results of the surveys that form part of the British Council Language Teaching for the Planet project I am involved in.

Plenary Session | Taking a step back: Applying Pedagogy to the Technology

Plenary Session | Taking a step back: Applying Pedagogy to the Technology

Time:

Many of us took emergency action with the outbreak of Covid 19 and serious consideration of how to effectively use technology took second place to simply getting courses organised and lessons delivered. How can we build on what we have learnt and how can we integrate our new knowledge into a blended mode of learning as we hopefully return to the classroom?  In a talk packed full of real examples, Russell will argue that it is time to take a step back and base our use of technologies on a few  key principles that could help to deliver the type of impact on learning we have talked about for so long.

Teaching in a Socially Distanced Classroom

Time:

In this session, we will look at the constraints and opportunities offered to us by the socially distanced classroom (SDC). There are three distinct areas in this analysis: Lesson Planning, Classroom Management, and the Use of Technology which provide a more comprehensive overview of the classroom in this context. We will draw upon the collaborative efforts from the Eaquals SDC Community of Practice in order to get a clearer idea of the modern classroom in a range of contexts.
