Eaquals Member Event Fund:FSMVU Teacher Training Course 2024
The FSMVU Teacher Training Course 2024, supported by the Eaquals Member Event Fund, was designed to help recent graduates develop the skills they need to teach English at tertiary level. This course aimed to provide practical knowledge and hands-on experience to those just starting their careers in education.
Applicant Selection and Pre-Course Preparation
The course saw interest from aspiring educators worldwide, with a total of 59 applicants submitting their CVs and motivational videos. From this pool, a selection committee meticulously chose 20 participants based on their potential and alignment with the course objectives. To ensure the course content was tailored to the participants’ needs, a pre-course task was assigned. This task not only assessed their existing knowledge but also provided valuable insights for structuring the course to maximize its impact.
Opening Ceremony and Inspirational Speeches
The training program officially commenced on 1st July with an opening ceremony that set the tone for the intensive learning ahead. Koray Tunc, Director of Prep School at FSMV University, warmly welcomed the participants and highlighted the important role teachers play in shaping the future of education. Adding to the inspiration, Vladlena Tcherkachina, Director of Prep School at MEF University, delivered a motivational address, emphasizing the impact that dedicated educators can have on their students’ lives. Eaquals was represented by Nergis Uyan, who provided an insightful session on the organization’s role in supporting and enhancing language education globally.
Teacher Training Sessions
Throughout the first week, participants attended a variety of training sessions focused on different aspects of teaching in a university setting. Topics ranged from classroom management and teaching various language skills to lesson planning and using educational technology effectively. The course also included sessions on differentiated instruction and the role of AI in education. The training was led by experienced educators including Faraz Abbasiyaghin, Tom Godfrey, Osama Kasbaji, Ayham Aljerik, Zeynep Bilgehan Can, Duygu Erdogan, Meryem Busra Unsal, Emrah Akkurt, Koray Tunc, and Mohsen Askari. Their expertise and dedication provided participants with a rich and engaging learning experience.
Practical Experience and Feedback
The second week of the course was devoted to teaching practice. Participants had the chance to apply what they’d learned in real classroom settings, with opportunities to teach summer school lessons. These teaching practices were followed by feedback sessions, where tutors offered constructive advice to help participants improve their techniques. This hands-on experience was a key part of the course, giving participants a taste of what it’s like to teach in a real educational environment.
Course Completion and Reflections
The course concluded with a ceremony where participants were recognized for their hard work. Certificates were handed out, and the group took time to reflect on what they had learned over the two weeks. Many participants left with a sense of accomplishment and a clearer idea of how to approach their future teaching roles.
Eaquals is pleased to have supported initiatives like this that help develop new educators and contribute to the ongoing improvement of teaching quality.
