GLS Training Day: Reflection & Exchange in Language Education
Reflection and Exchange at the GLS/IH Berlin Teacher Training Day
The GLS/IH Berlin Teacher Training Day 2025 took place on Saturday, 11th October, on the GLS campus in Prenzlauer Berg, Berlin. The event was supported by the Eaquals Member Event Fund, which helped bring in several speakers and contributed to promoting professional exchange within the Eaquals network.
Now in its fifth year, the GLS Training Day was organised by the GLS Academic
Team, led by Christina Schmidinger, Head of Teacher Training, together with Sebastian Nothhelfer and Sue Herbert. Over 100 participants attended, representing teachers of at least nine languages. Attendees included alumni of the GLS IH Certificate in Teaching German course, colleagues from other International House schools, and educators from across Germany, Switzerland, and Turkey.
Centred around the theme Innovation, Transformation and Reflection, the offered a full programme of workshops and discussions in both
English and German. Sessions explored topics such as AI in education, working with emergent language, autonomous learning, mediation, theatre pedagogy, and personal teaching styles. The event created a space for sharing good practice and practical insights across languages.
The opening plenary by Stefanie Fischer reflected on developments in language teaching, providing a thoughtful start to a day of engaging professional dialogue. Publishers and other sponsors also supported the event through workshops and resource stands, adding to the interactive atmosphere.

“We’re grateful to Eaquals and all our sponsors for making this event possible,” said
Christina Schmidinger. “The feedback has been very positive, and we look forward to welcoming participants again in 2026.”
