Naif University Joins the Eaquals Network

Welcoming a Specialist in Security English: Naif Arab University Joins Eaquals

The Eaquals network continues to grow with the addition of a distinctive and highly specialised member: the Language Centre at Naif Arab University for Security Sciences in Saudi Arabia.

This new member brings with it a clear sense of purpose and a well-defined audience, professionals working within Arab security agencies, alongside postgraduate students pursuing advanced degrees in Security Sciences. From the outset, the centre has positioned itself at the intersection of language education and real-world application, where communication is not just academic, but operational.

A Focus on Real-World Language Use

What stands out immediately is the centre’s commitment to English for Specific Purposes (ESP), particularly in the fields of security and law enforcement. Their programmes go beyond general communication skills, embedding language learning in authentic professional contexts such as border control, criminal investigation, incident reporting, and counter-terrorism.

This approach ensures that learners are not only improving their English, but doing so in ways that directly support their day-to-day responsibilities and long-term professional development. It’s a strong reminder of how targeted language training can make a tangible difference in high-stakes environments.

Alongside this, the centre also delivers General English courses aligned with CEFR levels and international

standards. Even here, there is a deliberate effort to maintain relevance by incorporating security-related contexts wherever possible, something that reflects a thoughtful and learner-centred design philosophy.

Building Quality from the Start

For the team at Naif Arab University, joining Eaquals was not simply about recognition, it was about setting a benchmark early on. As Centre Director Khatuna Tavartkiladze explains:

“We applied for Eaquals accreditation to benchmark our provision against internationally recognised standards from the outset. As a growing centre, we wanted to establish strong systems, clear procedures and effective academic practices early on to ensure quality was embedded from the beginning.”

This proactive approach is something many in the Eaquals community will recognise. Rather than waiting to refine systems over time, the centre has chosen to build its academic management, teaching practices, assessment procedures and governance structures on a solid foundation from day one.

The Eaquals accreditation process, including pre-inspection guidance, played an important role in this journey, helping the team strengthen their quality assurance systems and align with international best practice.

A Valuable Addition to the Network

The addition of Naif Arab University’s Language Centre highlights the diversity within the Eaquals network, not

only in terms of geography, but also in specialisation. Their work in Security English and law enforcement communication opens up valuable perspectives for the wider community, particularly as demand for ESP continues to grow globally.

Looking Ahead

We are pleased to welcome the Language Centre at Naif Arab University for Security Sciences into the Eaquals network. Their clear vision, strong focus on relevance, and commitment to quality reflect the shared values that underpin our community.
