İstanbul Kültür University Achieves Eaquals Accreditation

İstanbul Kültür University School of Foreign Languages Receives Eaquals Accreditation

İstanbul Kültür University School of Foreign Languages has joined the Eaquals community as an accredited institution.

The School’s approach to English education goes beyond language proficiency. Its aim is to help students become confident, independent and socially responsible learners who can use English effectively in their academic studies, future careers and personal lives. Student-centred, communicative teaching is supported by a wider approach that connects classroom learning with academic guidance, independent study and opportunities to participate in university life.

Connecting English learning with university life

The School’s intensive English Preparatory Programme covers A1 to B2 level, developing students’ reading, writing, listening and speaking alongside grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation and fluency. The School also coordinates English courses for students across the University’s faculties and vocational schools.

One of its key initiatives is the BRIDGE Framework, which brings together language development, project-based learning and academic and personal support. Rather than limiting English practice to classroom lessons, BRIDGE gives students opportunities to apply their skills through English Language Skills workshops, poster and podcast projects, and extracurricular activities.

The framework also incorporates academic advising, instructor office hours, independent learning support and student feedback mechanisms. Together, these activities give students different ways to practise English, seek guidance and take an active role in their learning, while strengthening their connection with the wider university community.

For students moving towards more specialised academic study, the B2+ Masterclass Programme offers a more focused form of preparation. It combines English language development with academic skills relevant to students’ majors, helping them prepare for the linguistic and academic demands of their future disciplines.

A learning environment shaped by its community

Located in Istanbul, the School brings together Turkish and international students with different educational backgrounds and perspectives. It aims to create an inclusive, collaborative environment in which students feel supported from their initial orientation through to their transition into their academic departments.

Instructors, academic advisors, support services and Student Quality Ambassadors all contribute to this experience. Regular feedback channels also give students opportunities to raise concerns and help shape their learning environment.

For Assist. Prof. Dr. Sinan Bataklar, Director of İstanbul Kültür University School of Foreign Languages, pursuing Eaquals accreditation was a way to evaluate the School against internationally recognised standards and make its commitment to continuous improvement visible.

As he explains:

“We decided to pursue Eaquals accreditation because we wanted our educational practices to be evaluated against internationally recognised standards and to make our commitment to continuous improvement visible. For us, accreditation is not simply a mark of quality, but an ongoing responsibility to our students, our staff, and the wider academic community. Becoming part of Eaquals gives us valuable opportunities to learn from an international network, share good practice, and continue building a language-learning environment in which every student is supported to succeed.”
