Cambridge Sustainable Classroom Challenge

How Are You Bringing Sustainability Skills Into Your Language Classroom?

Think about the last time your learners became genuinely invested in a lesson.

Perhaps they explored a local issue, designed a campaign, debated a social challenge or worked together to solve a real-world problem.

When language learning connects with real life, learners do more than practise English. Instead, they use it to communicate, collaborate and create change. As a result, they develop skills that extend far beyond the classroom.

That’s why we’re excited to launch the Cambridge Sustainable Classroom Challenge.

Through the challenge, we’re inviting language educators to share how they have used the Cambridge Sustainability Framework for ELT to help learners develop sustainability skills through meaningful language learning experiences.

You May Already Have a Story to Share

Many teachers already help learners develop skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, creativity and responsible decision-making. However, they do not always recognise this work as sustainability education.

The Cambridge Sustainability Framework for ELT provides a useful way to identify and describe these learning experiences. In fact, many educators are already using elements of the framework in their teaching.

Have your learners explored environmental, social or economic challenges? Have they developed solutions, created awareness campaigns or connected classroom learning with their local community?

If so, you may already have a strong entry.

Why Take Part?

By participating, you’ll have the opportunity to showcase your learners’ achievements, share ideas with fellow educators and contribute to the conversation around sustainability in ELT.

In addition, every participating institution will receive a professional development certificate.

The winning institution will also have the opportunity to present its initiative at the Eaquals Online Conference in October 2026.
